Do you believe you are a Success?

success

Women in particular, often have difficulty praising themselves or believing themselves to be a ‘success’. The dictionary definition of success is ‘accomplishment’ or ‘triumph’ but many of us still carry that illusion that we just don’t hit the mark or are a failure in some way. How many of us despite doing the best that we can, still don’t believe deep down that we are successful?

Is success all in the mind? Let’s face it:
At age 4, success is ….. not wetting your pants.
At age 12, success is ….. having friends.
At age 17, success is ….. having a drivers’ license.
At age 20, success is ….. having sex.
At age 35, success is ….. having money.
At age 50, success is ….. having money.
At age 60, success is….. having sex.
At age 70, success is ….. having sex.
At age 75, success is ….. having friends.
At age 80, success is ….. not wetting your pants.

So what really has to happen before you feel a success in life and your business? Let’s be honest here, is your lack of success down more down to your perception of a situation being one of failure rather than success? You see it really doesn’t matter whether you choose to stay at home with the family, work as a part time cleaner or you are the CEO of your own business. Success is all in the mind.Success is all in the mind

In my business, I often come across individuals, who in my opinion are undoubtedly successful. However, these people often are their own worse critics, failing to believe this about themselves or often spending hours comparing themselves to other people. They often keep pushing themselves to do more and more searching for that illusive feeling of ‘being successful’ Well guess what – this is actually just an illusion as those goal posts keep getting wider and many never really see themselves as being successful.

So why not make success something you feel today rather than something which may or may not happen in the future? Why not choose to celebrate those little successes, those small wins and those little things you can do each day, not just for yourself, but for other people.

Rules

We often unconsciously have a list of ‘Rules’ in our heads – meaning things which we believe must happen before we can call ourselves successful. For one client of mine, she only felt like a success when she had achieved everything on her’ To Do’ list each day and 100% of this work was completed to her high expectations. Can you see how difficult she was setting things up in order to feel successful on a regular basis?

A good exercise to do is to examine your own beliefs and rules for success. What has to happen in order for you to feel successful? Is it something so far reached that it is virtually impossible for you to feel a success on a daily basis? If so, I urge you to change your rules. Just how different would you feel if your new rule on success was ‘ Every time I complete just a little task such as getting out of bed, getting the kids off to school or trying my best it means I am a success’?

Just imagine how much nicer this would be! Remember as well, success is not about what you own, how much money you have or how big your business is – success really is all about mindset and how you feel about yourself.
